Gel Plate Printmaking August 8

Friday, August 8, 2025 / 9:30 am - noon
1025 Rosewood, Boulder
Cost: $35
Gel plate printing is a fun and easy process to create colorful designs, textures and patterns on all kinds of paper. Artists of all levels find the process enjoyably experimental.
Materials to bring:
-
Gel plate(s): Available through Gelli Arts, Gel Press. Check Amazon, Michael’s, Guiry’s, Two Hands to purchase. Recommended: It's great to have more than one get plate since some of the techniques involve drying time -- so you can be working on two at once!.
-
Paper: Your paper should cover your gel plate but leave a bit of margin. Plain printer paper works well but it’s fun to try thinner paper, rice paper, vellum, deli paper they wrap sandwiches in, etc.
-
And printing on colorful papers is fun too.
-
Acrylic paint of any kind. The more colors the better! is better!.Tubes or squeeze bottles are convenient. Check out Art Parts on Arapahoe for a range of colors and kinds of paint at a lower price. A set of multi-colored tubes is ideal.
-
Brayer(s) / rollers
-
Clear packaging tape
-
Mark-making tools/surfaces: various paintbrushes and palette knives, rubber scrapers, textured fabric, bubble wrap, yarn/string, botanical material (grasses, leaves, flowers, real or artificial), combs, sticks, prickly things, kitchen implements, stencil, rubber stamps, doilies, etc.
-
Paint shirt or smock: this is messy!
-
Something to take home your work in – portfolio, large envelope, box, whatever. We’ll make a lot of paper!
